The cytylsts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation of a *BEA zeolite using Ir acetylacetonate, calcination at 573 K and reduction at 723 K in a flow of hydrogen. FTIR characterization indicated that Ir deposition occurred without extended ionic exchange of Ir and without a significant blockage of the pores. Strong Lewis acid sites were present in the calcined catalysts, and large molecules like DTBP penetrated easily inside the pores. FTIR data were correlated with the catalytic behavior of these zeolites in hydrogenation of a prostaglandin intermediate.
