Kapitola popisuje mechanismy imunologické tolerance, které se uplatňují při zajišťování přežívání geneticky odlišného plodu v těle matky. Jako hlavní mechanismy tolerance jsou diskutovány klonální delece reaktivních buněk v thymu, buněčná anergie a aktivita regulačních a supresorových T buněk. Zdůrazněna je také účast cytokinů a dalších imunoregulačních molekul. Tyto mechansmy spolu s ochrannou funkcí placenty zajišťují zdravý vývoj plodu v prenatálním období.

The chapter describes mechanisms of immunological tolerance which ensure survival of genetically different foetus in the body of mother. As the most important mechanisms of tolerence are discussed clonal deletion of reactive cells in the thymus, anergy and the activity of regulatory and suppressor cells. The chapter also stresses the important role of cytokines and other immunoregulatory molercules. All these mechanisms, in association with the function of placenta, are reponsible for the healthy development of the foetus in the prenatal period.
