Im Zentrum der langfristigen Forschung des Ethnologischen Instituts der Akademie der Wissenschaften in Prag steht der Liedtyp der tsechischen Volkslieder. Instrumentale Herkunft des sgn. westlichen Typs der Volksmelodie ist für sie charakteristich. Die Frage der Eigenschaften und Genese dieses Typs beantwortet die Methode der strukturellen Analyse. Zum ersten Mal wurde eine komplexe Musikanalyse der Tanzmelodien in Monographie des Musik-Tanztyps do kolečka ausgenützt. In Jahren 2003–2007 wurden ungefähr 2000 Liedereinheiten von den gedruckten Sammlungen Böhmischer Volkslieder von der 1. Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts bis die 60. Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts analysiert. Melodie wurde als Struktur einer höheren Ordnung behandelt. Es geht um ein verbundenes System einzelner Ebenen: Metrik, Rhythmus, Melodie, Form, Textaufbau, Deklamation und Tempo ua.

The music type of Czech folk songs has received long-term attention in research at the Department of Ethnomusicology at the Institute of Ethnology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, based in Prague. It is characterised as belonging to what is referred to as the western type of folk melody. The characteristics and genesis of the type are explained in structural analysis. The complex musical analysis of dance tunes was first employed in a monograph on the round-and-round music type. Between 2003 and 2007, a profound analysis was conducted covering around 2000 songs from printed collections of Czech folk songs ranging from the first half of the 19th century through to the 1960s. Tune is defined as a structure of a higher rank, an interconnected system of various levels: those of metrum, rhythm, melody, form, text structure, declamation, time etc.
