Keltové a Germáni jsou ve školách prezentováni jako nejstarší národy či etnické skupiny na našem území. V historii a archeologii se však nedávno vedla debata, která poukazuje na to, že tento názor je třeba revidovat a že je třeba upřednostnit skutečnost, že Keltové ani Germáni po sobě nezanechali žádné písemné památky, a proto neznáme jejich vlastní názory a vlastní sebeidentifikaci. Zprávy o nich totiž pocházejí pouze od vnějších pozorovatelů, tedy od Řeků a Římanů. Podle soudobé společenské vědy je při určování etnicity rozhodující sebeidentifikace. Ačkoli debata na toto téma není zdaleka u konce, vědci se shodují, že Keltové ani Germáni nebyli etniky nebo národy v moderním slova smyslu. A tato zásadní informace by měla být zprostředkována žákům a studentům všech typů škol.

The Celts and Germans are presented in schools as the oldest peoples or ethnic groups in our territory. However, there has been a recent debate in history and archaeology which points out that this view needs to be revised and that priority should be given to the fact that neither the Celts nor the Germans have left behind any written monuments and therefore we do not know their own views and their own self-identification. Indeed, reports about them come only from outside observers, i.e. the Greeks and Romans. According to contemporary social science, self-identification is decisive in determining ethnicity. Although the debate on this topic is far from over, scholars agree that neither the Celts nor the Germanic people were ethnicities or nations in the modern sense. And this crucial information should be conveyed to pupils and students in all types of schools.
