Knowingthatour,erythrocyteshaveaminimalcapacityfortranscription andproteinsynthesisasaresultoflossofthenucleusthroughoutthe maturation,redbloodcellshavealwaysbeenoverlookedandneglectedin theirroleinnotonlythediseasebutalsoasimmunemodulatorsofboth innateandadaptiveimmunity.Previously,weobservedthestrongproinflammatoryimmuneresponsesgeneratedbytheredbloodcellsin parasiticdiseasehencethemajoraimofthisprojectwastoevaluatethe immuneresponseoftheRBCsinthebacterialinfection,toobserve whethertheRBCshavetheabilitytodistinguishdifferentpathogenandif so,whatimmunemechanismsdotheydeploy.Forthatpurpose,wehave performedaseriesofco-cultureexperimentswiththeRBCsofC.carpio exposedtotheAeromonashydrophilaaswellastheinvivoinfectionin differentconcentrations.
