The chapter 4.1. deals with selection and agrotechnology of cultivation of perspective plants for biorefining such as Populus spp. and Leuzea carthamoides. We stress the necessity to grow energy plants on marginal land to avoid their competition with food crops. The research team of BIORAF project has developed bio-refining technologies to obtain valuable products from natural materials such as plants or animal waste from agricultural and food industries. The book covers broad research aspects of chemical processing of biomass to high-value products and alternate energy sources.
