The work introduces novel plastic-based scintillation materials with improved radiation
hardness. Materials such as polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), mixtures of polystyrene (PS) with different high Stokes-shift materials (coumarin 30, quinine, 8-Anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid) or composite scintillators containing ZnO:Ga scintillation powder dispersed in PS matrix were used for this study. The effect of additives such as antioxidants (riboflavin), thermostabilizers
(phosphines) and fluorescent brighteners into PS matrix was studied as well as the
synergic effect of PS to light yield of ZnO:Ga scintillation powder. The radiation hardness was compared to reference sample made by p-terphenyl and POPOP in polystyrene which is commercially used plastic scintillation material. The radiation hardness was determined by changes of light yield under electron beam of different energies using FEI MAGELLAN 400 electron microscope.
