Thermodynamic studies (analyses)of reactions of HCl, HBr, SO2, NO, elemental sulfur and mercury with solid Na2CO3and Ca(OH)2were performed bytheminimization of Gibbs energy[11-13]for the model systems used. Theoretical equilibrium concentrations of gaseous species and formed solid phases were determined in this way for the temperature range 400 –560 K. For selected reactions, the Gibbs reaction energies have been also computed and compared in the temperature range 400 –600 K to assess their probabilities and preferencesin reactions. The thermodynamic analyses involvedsystems with computations of gas/solid phase composition on the basis of assumption of solid phases with unit activities(stable, basic state). It is evident that the designof lue gas cleaning processes cannotbe based only on theoretical thermodynamic analyses, but we suppose that the data are useful as some limits, applicable and valuable for practice, where the equilibria are not attained due to various reasons(kinetics, insufficient time for reactions, diffusional limitations, changing activities of solid phases, etc.
