Die Studie befasst sich mit dem Phänomen der Emigration und des Exils aus der Tschechoslowakei von 1968 bis 1989. Sie konzentriert sich auf die soziale Zusammensetzung der Geflüchteten, analysiert ihre Motivation und beschreibt auch die Reaktion des kommunistischen Regimes, das diese Protestform systematisch kriminalisierte. Die Studie stütz sich sowohl auf die Quellen der kommunistischen Partei und der Staatssicherheit als auch auf die Exilzeitschriften und die Fachliteratur.

This study deals with a phenomenon of exile and emigration from Czechoslovakia between 1968 and 1989. The study analyzes social structure of emigrants and their motivations furthermore it discloses reactions of the communist regime, which systematically criminalized this form of protest. Party documents, opposition exile materials and documents of the State Security were used as primary sources of the study.
