Článek poskytuje první český anotovaný překlad slavného Sargonova dopisu bohu Aššurovi týkající se jeho osmé výpravy proti Urartu, kterou podnikl v roce 714 př. Kr. Dopis popisuje expedici asyrského krále Sargona II. (722-705 př. Kr.) do oblasti Urmijského jezera v severozápadním Íránu, během níž byl poražen urarejský král Rusa I. (asi 730-713 př. Kr.), a dále popisuje trestnou výpravu proti Musasiru, posvátnému městu urartejského boha Chaldiho, jehož chrám Sargon vyplenil a bohatou kořist přinesl svému bohu Aššurovi.

The present article gives the first Czech annotated translation of the famous Sargon's letter to the god Aššur concerning his eighth campaign against Urartu undertaken in the year 714 B.C. The letter vividly describes the expedition of the Assyrian king Sargon II (722-705 B.C.) to the region of the Lake Urmia in northwestern Iran during which the Urartian king Rusa I (ca. 730-713 B.C.) was defeated and the subsequent punitive expedition against Musasir, the sacred town of the Urartian god Haldi, the temple of which Sargon plundered and brought extensive booty to his god Aššur.
