Amblyomma americanum (Linnaeus), the lone star tick, is a major human-biting tick in the eastern, southeastern and midwestern USA. Because of the high population densities and increased expansion ability, its capacity to transmit multiple pathogens, and its aggressive and liberal feeding behavior, A. americanum is emerging as one of the most medically and economically significant tick vectors in the United States.
