Current knowledge of impacts is drawn largely from a relatively small number of herbaceous species in the temperate environments of the northern hemisphere which more than likely reflects the coincidence of research effort. This knowledge is also limited to a few, easily measured sets of responses and the changes observed often do not translate easily to measures of ecosystem services or evidence of environmental degradation.
