The Kozly creek basin is located in the West Bohemia near Cheb, in the region with ancient (Tertiary and Quaternary) volcanic activity, and recent seismic activity. Wider surrounding of the studied zone has been constituted by metamorphites except an ancient volcano called Železná hůrka (i.e. Iron Mountain) built by olivinic nephelinite, and located to the south from the crenal area. We suppose that the source area is formed by a maar caldera (depression), while the currently known Quaternary volcano is considered as a second-order volcanic chimney with a scoria cone. Our hypothesis has been based on an assumption of larger extent of the volcanic structure because of the findings of volcanic tuff and tephra far from the small scoria cone. Therefore four new transects crossing the maar depression have been measured by geomagnetic, geoelectric and gravimetric methods. Furthermore, two additional transects had been added outside the caldera area between the maar and the scoria cone. At all points, geomagnetic measurements were performed using GSM Overhauser Magnetometer/Gradiometer.
