Významný český šlechtic a politik Lev Thun (1811-1888) udržoval s většími či menšími přestávkami přes dvacet let korespondenci s Alexisem de Tocqueville, největším francouzským politickým myslitelem 19. století. Námětem dopisů je nejen nástup demokracie v moderním světě, ale též tehdy tolik diskutovaná otázka reformy vězeňství, v níž se oba autoři významně angažovali, a v neposlední řadě i Thunova začínající politická kariéra. Text přináší česko-německý překlad Thunova návrhu vězeňství z roku 1836 s edičními komentáři.

The notable Bohemian aristocrat Leo Thun (1811-1888) corresponded with Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859), the greatest French political thinker of the 19th Century, over the course of twenty years. The topics varied from general issues such as the birth of democracy in the modern world and the necessity of introducing the penitentiary system to Europe to personal concerns of Leo Thun related to his political career. The text brings a commented edition of Thun's publication on prison reform (1836) in Czech and German.
