The paper deals with the question of how to obtain an accurate density distribution in a cross section of a slurry pipe using a gamma-ray radiometric device adapted for tomography purposes. New radiometric devices at Institute of Hydrodynamics in Prague are presented and basic principles of a measuring method are given. A scatter of a gamma-ray beam and errors in beam-position reading are identified as major factors reducing accuracy of results, particularly in the region near the pipe wall. A numerical simulation was performed to investigate a relation between a standard deviation of the evaluated density and the total measuring time. Only qualitative conclusions can be drawn from the simulation results, however the results demonstrate clearly an importance of a suitable geometrical setup for an experiment using the tomography method.
