Diverse kinds of pyrimidine acyclic nucleoside phosphonates were transformed to corresponding monophosphates to increase their inhibitory potency towards human thymidine phosphorylase. A mathematical simulation supported a hypothesis of increased affinity of monophosphates to binding sites of the enzyme.
