Monografie podává přehled dějin území, které dnes patří Slovinsku od nejstarších dob (konkrétně od dob keltského a římského osídlení tohoto teritoria) až do současnosti. Hlavní důraz je v knize položen na výklad slovinských dějin v 19. a 20. století. Detailně je mj. popsáno období rozpadu komunistické Jugoslávie, proces státního osamostatňování Slovinska v letech 1990–1992 a bezmála již dvě desetiletí existence samostatné Slovinské republiky. Důležitou součástí knihy je také kapitola o historii bohatých česko-slovinských styků.

The monograph provides a summary of history of the territory now being a part of Slovenia from the oldest times (more precisely from the Celtic and Roman settlement of the territory) up to the present times. The book puts the main emphasis on interpretation of the Slovenian history in the 19th and 20th centuries. The era of disintegration of the communist Yugoslavia is described in detail, as well as the process of Slovenia becoming an independent country in the years 1990–1992 and almost two decades of existence of the independent Republic of Slovenia. A chapter concerning the history of rich Czech-Slovenian relations is an important part of the book.
