The spatial discretization of a continuum by the finite element method introduces dispersion error to the numerical solution of stress wave propagation. The errors of the phase and group velocities and the scatter of the wave propagation are induced and,furthermore, frequencies higher than cut-off frequency are not transmitted by the finite element mesh.
