The endothelial cells (EC) at the interface between the flowing blood and the vessel wall are exposed to the chemical stimuli as well as hydrodynamic forces activationg EC-blood cell adhesive interactions. These adhesive interactions are involved also in the regulation of leukocyte homing to inflamed tissue.
