Although electromagnetic stirring of molten metals belongs to well-known technologies, its computer simulation is not easy due to strong nonlinearities occurring in the mathematical model. the most difficult problem seems to be solution of the steady-state Navier-Stokes equation that is often characterised by slow convergence, oscillations or numerical instabilities. The paper summarises some results and shows possible difficulties when solving particular examples.
