Two bioactive compounds, viz. 4-methylheptan-3-ol (I) and 4-methylheptan-3-one (II) have been identified in European oak bark beetle (.I.Scolytus intricatus./I.) extracts. The absolute configuration of the identified compounds is (3.I.R./I.,4.I.S./I.)-I and (.I.S./I.)-II.
