Synthesis of muramyl glycopeptides carba analogs having the side chain linking to C-3 of their saccharide unit with C-C bond. Key carba analogs of normuramic acid, i.e., 3-(2-acetamido-2,3-dideoxy-D-glucopyranos-3-yl)propanoic acid derivatives were prepared by addition of radicals generated from appropriate 3-O-thiocarbonyl derivatives of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine with Bu3SnH to acrylic acid derivatives.
