It is demonstrated that adsorbed layers of surface active compounds dissolved in organic phase can be stabilized by a chemical reaction resulting in oxidation of adsorbed monomers by a redox couple dissolved in water. Oxidation of the adsorbed monomer leads to the formation of a compact polymer layer. This formation can be monitored by surface tension measurement and by cyclic voltammetry in the presence of transferable ions. In contrast to a simple adsorbed layer, interfacial tension in the presence of a polymer layer becomes almost independent of the applied potential and the formed polymer layer strongly inhibits ion transfer reactions.
