Carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composites (CFRC) were developed for orthopedic and dental surgery. Polishing CFRC by colloidal SiO2 and covering with a carbon-titanium (C:Ti) layer improved adhesion and growth of osteogenic MG-63 cells and vascular smooth muscle cells on these materials.
