In rats maintained under a long photoperiod with 16:8h light-darkcycle and then released into darkness, the time of the morning c-Fosrise occured about 4 h earlier than under the short photoperiod with8:16h light dark cycle. After a change from a long to a short photo-period a rough adjustment of the morning c-Fos rise to the change wasaccomplished within 3-6 days. The results show that similar to therecently reported ventrolateral SCN rhythmicity, the intrinsicdorsomedial SCN rhythmicity is also affected by photoperiod and suggestthat the whole SCN state is photoperiod dependent.
