Práce přináší všestranné vyhodnocení vrcholně středověkých fortifikací-hradů (13.-15. stol.) na územíčeské části historického Slezska, při zapojení archeologie, historie, dějin umění a celé řady dalších historických a přírodovědných disciplin. Sleduje však nejen vlastní opevněná sídla, ale i jejich úlohu v sídelním procesu, dotýká se otázek kolonizace, komunikací, důlní činnosti a pod., podává zcela nový a neotřelý pohled na historii Opavskaa Těšínska od jejich vstupu na historickou scénu vprůběhu 9. věku až po období česko-uherských válekv 60.-70. letech 15. století.

The paper brings an all-sided evaluation of fortifikations in the culminating Middle Ages-castles (13.-15th centuries) on the territory of the Czech partof historic Silesia, with the participation of archaeology, history and a number of further historicaland sciences branches. But it follows not only thefortified settlements proper, but also their role inthe process of settlement, it touches problems of colonisation, communications, mining activity, etc.,thusrendering a new, unclichéd view of the history of theregions of Opava and Těšín from their appearance onthe historic scene in the course of the 9th century upto the period Czech-Hungarian wars in the 1450-1470s.
