Links between social structure and social policies are demonstrated. The post-communist state interferes more than other governments into social structure and supports strong actors. This hinders expansion of the main actor of a successful transition - the middle class. The middle-class perspective frames several tensions: between pensioners and economically active, working and non-working poor, the middle class and other groups and between the entrepreneurial and white-collar middle class

Publikace se zabývá vazbami mezi sociální strukturou a sociální politikou. Postkomunistický stát zasahuje více než jiné vlády do sociální struktury a podporuje silné aktéry. To brání rozvíjení hlavního aktéra úspěšné transformace - střední třídy. Perspektiva střední třídy tvoří rámec pro několik typů napětí: mezi důchodci a ekonomicky aktivními, pracujícími a chudými nepracujícími, střední třídou a dalšími skupinami a mezi podnikatelskou střední třídou a střední třídou pracující v administrativě
