Plants of Phragmites australis and Lythrum salicaria originating from localities across a European north-south geographical gradient were cultivated in a tub experiment. A strong correlation between some of the measured plant characteristics and the respective population´s position along the north-south gradient a confirmed correlation between the plants origin, and the competitive behaviour of both plant species.

Rostliny rákosu obecného a kypreje vrbice pocházející z lokalit na evropském severojižním geografickém gradientu byly kultivovány v nádobovém pokusu. Těsná korelace mezi některými růstovými charakteristikami a poloze příslušné populace na geografickém gradientu podporuje hypotézu o vztahu mezi místem původu populace a její kompetitivností, a to u obou sledovaných druhů
