V knize je sledován vývoj a střetávání demokratických a méně či více nedemokratických názorů na české dívčí školství od jeho počátků až po uzákonění řádného vysokoškolského studia žen. Na základě dobové i současné literatury a pramenů objasňuje filozofickou podstatu argumentů jednotlivých stran sporu a obtížnost emancipace žen v oblasti vzdělávání. Popisuje reflexi tohoto procesu v liberálním a konzervativním tisku se zaměřením na problematiku vstupu žen do politiky.

The content of the book focuses on the conflict between democratic and conservative perceptions of Czech girls‘ education in 19th century up–to the enactment of legal changes allowing women to register for regular university studies. On the basis of original sources and available historical literature the work exposes the philosophical essence of arguments presented by democratic and undemocratic orientations, and difficulties involved in struggles for equal opportunities for education of women. Special attention is given to the reflection of various stands on women’s education and political participation in the liberal and conservative press.
