Using a novel approach we have launched a search for possible susceptibility genes which predispose individuals to the metabolic syndrome. We combined two different analysis techniques, the DNA chip technique (microarray) and linkage analysis, to identify genes which may contribute to the pathogenesis of the metabolic syndrome. With the aid of the DNA chips, we identified which genes are transcribed or expressed in order to produce proteins. Linkage analysis then allowed to establish a relationship between particular traits, such as hypertension, and particular genes
Primární genetické příčiny podmiňující metabolický syndrom u kmene SHR byly odhaleny pomocí nového přístupu, kombinace analýzy profilů genové exprese na DNA biočipech s vazebnými analýzami u rekombinantních inbredních kmenů vytvořených z kmenů SHR a Brown Norway: (1) s pomocí DNA biočipů byla stanovena kvantitativní exprese téměř 16 000 genů v ledvině a v tuku a (2) vazebné analýzy pak umožnily nalézt vztahy mezi profily genové exprese, geny regulujícími tuto expresi a patofyziologickými znaky metabolického syndromu
