The application of passive vibration absorbers is known from many examples, the individual cases differing chiefly by the type of superstructure, giving rise to the following facts: usually natural less frequently forced vibration frequency, direction and magnitude of the vector of the dynamic response of the structure and the optimum dimensions and dynamic characteristics of the vibration absorber. The theory and application of pendulum vibration absorbers of horizontal movements of tall structures subjected to wind load was elaborated in our country by 0. Fischer. Vibration absorbers of other structures of different design but based on an identical computation model, were used e. g. for the restriction of horizontal movements of an old weaving plant building , for the damping of vertical movements of a prestressed concrete footbridge across the Sacramenta river. The importance of these absorbers for the limitation of excessive movements of building structures is testified also by the great number of papers in the conference proceedings of the International Conference on Wind Engineering, Elsevier, 1992.
