Vzhledem k tomu, že uvedené vily si nechali stavět papežové či vysocí funkcionáři jejich dvorů, jde o pohled z perspektivy centra tehdejšího světa. Kniha zachycuje proměny společnosti, odhaluje, jak se renesanční životní styl vycházející ze znovuobjevené antiky, propojený s kultem přírody a rozvinutím lidské přirozenosti, postupně proměňoval směrem k barokní exaltovanosti a zbožnosti. Text je bohatě prokládán fotografickou dokumentací. Výkladem alegoricko-symbolického významu výzdoby vil poutavě zasvěcuje do renesančního myšlení. Překlad anotace These stories about Roman villas from the time of the Renaissance and the early baroque period are conceived not only as an informative guide through architectural and artistic masterpieces from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, but also as an approachable text that introduces the reader to the cultural and political history which predetermined modern Europe. Given that the villas described in this book were commissioned by Popes or senior officials of Papal Courts, the stories of these villas are told from the perspective of what was then the centre of the world. The book depicts the development of social life, revealing how the Renaissance lifestyle, which was based upon the rediscovery of Greek and Roman antiquity combined with the cult of nature and the development of humanity, gradually transformed towards baroque exaltedness and devoutness. The text is richly illustrated with photographic documentation and the book’s enthralling explanation of the villas’ allegorical-symbolic decoration truly initiates the reader into the Renaissance way of thinking.
