V své první části kapitola tematizuje na jedné straně absenci teorií původu řeckého mýtu v českém prostředí, na straně druhé značnou popularitu českých i zahraničních převyprávění antické mytologie a zabývá se jejich narativními strategiemi. V druhé části představuje metodologii knihy a na dvou příkladech (Roland Barthes, Jan Patočka) ukazuje napětí, které je obsaženo v teoretickém konceptu recepce na jedné straně a vlastním aktu recepce na straně druhé.

In its first part the chapter thematizes the almost non-existent phenomenon of Czech theories of origins and meanings of myths on the one hand, and the significant popularity of Czech as well as translated retellings of ancient myths on the other, focusing on their narrative strategies. In the second part the chapter introduces methodology of the book: choosing two examples (Roland Barthes and Jan Patočka) a specific tension is demonstrated, which is present in the theoretical concept of reception on the one side and in an individual act of reception on the other side.
